Spencer Update:
I posted this a few days ago, but realized I forgot to update my facebook friends. Thanks to everyone for the well wishes and prayer.
Thought I'd give you all a quick update. We met with a second pediatric cardiologist yesterday in Spokane and he confirmed that Spencer does have SVT (supraventricular tachycardia) . It is not something he will grow out of so he will learn to treat it himself if possible with some vagal maneuvers (standing on his head, sticking his face in ice water, bearing down as if to give birth - I seriously almost busted a gut when the male Dr. demonstrated this one, LOL!) Anyway, he is currently on a beta blocker to help control the heart rate and we will try taking him off this summer when he's done with sports. For now, he can play basketball and soccer making sure to tell his coaches when/if he needs a break. SVT has a90% cure rate with surgery, but we're all a little hesitant to rush into that. It seems like a simple procedure, but it is invasive and does have risks. Anyway, I was relieved to hear that he will not drop dead on the basketball court as this is not likely to cause a heart attack. When he does have an episode, there is plenty of time to try to reset it on his own then get the the ER if that doesn't work. Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers!
